Start by choosing the performance and the stage
On the festival’s official website, check the title, date and time, venue and ticket information. Don’t assume that all performances follow the same schedule or that they are all on the same stage. If you are travelling with friends, settle on the performance before you plan the rest of the evening. That way you will also know how much time you can leave for dinner before it starts.
Keep the daytime part of your visit open
If you arrive in town early, choose a walk through the centre or a single cultural venue, depending on your interests. There is no need to turn the few hours before the performance into another packed schedule. A short walk, a coffee and lunch can be a good enough prelude. If this is your first visit, Freedom Square and the story of Svetozar Miletić make a simple starting point.
Dinner before the show
When you plan dinner before the theatre, allow time for sitting down, choosing, the cooking and getting to the venue. Reserving a table and mentioning when the performance starts make things easier, but leave yourself a realistic margin. Don’t plan to finish your meal at the last minute. At this time of day a clear choice of dishes often works best, without the whole group deliberating at length at the table.
At Lazin Salaš you can look at the menu and choose what suits you that day. Gibanica, cooked dishes and homemade desserts offer different options for a meal. If you are new to the local food, read our guide to Vojvodina dishes before you come.
Talking it over after the show
After the theatre there is often a wish to share your impressions around a table. If you are planning a later meal, check when you book until what time the kitchen is serving; a venue’s opening hours and the hours for ordering food should not automatically be taken as the same. At Lazin Salaš live music starts at 9 pm, so take that into account too when choosing a place for a quiet conversation or for carrying on the night.
A plan that leaves room for the city too
You can extend your festival visit with a walk the next day, rather than squeezing everything in between your arrival and the evening performance. For a wider choice, see our guide to Novi Sad’s festivals. And once you have decided how you want to spend the evening, reserve a table and time your arrival to fit your cultural programme.
